It was Martin Samuel (I'm not usually a big fan) in the Sunday Times who captured the disgraceful scenes when Jose Mourinho's Roma tried to bully English referee Anthony Taylor in their match against Sevilla the previous Wednesday. The game itself was appalling, Samuel told us: "It's audio equivalent would be Emerson Lake and Palmer's triple live album Welcome Back, My Friends, to the Show That Never Ends. If you've sat through that, you know how the Europa League final felt. ........ There was no light in the shade of Budapest as Taylor quelled rebellion after rebellion, brushed off insult after insult, waited patiently in vain for dignity to be restored.
What Martin Samuel started by saying was that Taylor could have taken a hint from South Park (whatever that is) and Eric Cartman's "Screw you guys, I'm going home". Then we all could have watched something else.
