Two Coronations

The Coronation of Charles 111 brought back memories of his mother's in 1953. I was eight years old and included the following in a previous post.

On the day of the Queen's Coronation in June 1953, Dad (as the manager of the one grocery store) had the task of judging the best decorated house in Alton. I was with him in the van as we toured around the village. Did we have our first television by then? We watched the event on a tiny screen somewhere, so we may well have.

I can remember being quite bored at times with the proceedings. Even the procession seemed tedious on the tiny 8 inch black and white screen.

Unlike today with the massive colour televisions in HD. Ours is a modest 43 inches. Yesterday we sat for a long time watching the pageantry unfold.
