Gloria

Having enjoyed Sebasian Lelio's A Fantastic Woman, (review 29th June) I invested in DVD of his previous film Gloria, not to be confused with his later American remake Gloria Bell. The second hand  DVD was much cheaper than buying the film online. Gloria is an intelligent drama with standout performance by Paulina Garcia in the title role. This is essential viewing for anyone of a mature age going through a new relationship post divorce. A family gathering is suitably embarrassing.

Gloria's new relationship is up and down, but neither of the two is without fault. The setting is Santiago in Chile and there is one view from a restaurant high above the city that is quite remarkable. The music reflects that of the country, but it is the final long classic track that lasts all through the credits at the end that makes you want to get up and dance with Garcia. This is the Umberto Tozzi original version which, when shown in the cinema, would get the patrons dancing in the isles.

Catch it on YouTube "Gloria Ending Dance".
