Blade Runner - The Final Cut

A terrific bargain from Music Magpie at £2.37 for what looked like a brand new DVD. An extremely short introduction by director Ridley Scott before we hear that Vangelis trademark "music". I actually preferred the jazz parts more than the electronic stuff. The cityscapes were highly impressive, but is the story overpowered by the design? In fact I found that the film is quite slow, almost ponderous. More style than substance. But what style! The sets, the costumes, the hardware and the cinematography are all outstanding. Actually it might be all the extras that make the film.

The script might be a factor these days, very plain and subdued. That might account for Harrison Ford's disappointing monotone performance. Sean Young likewise, but somehow this suited her role. "More human than human". I was looking for hints to resolve whether Deckard is human or a replicant. His dreaming of the unicorn might persuade the latter, but would he nearly lose fights with Zhora and Pris if he was a replicant blade runner? Who knows?
