Olympic Medals 2021 - Bronze, Silver and Gold

When Holly Bradshaw won our first ever Olympic medal in the pole vault, I had to check if this was the same Holly we saw that day at the 2012 Olympics. It was. My post of the 6th August that year confirms the  "pole vault where GB's Holly Bleasedale qualified for the final".

I'm not sure why our favourite medallist is Georgia Taylor-Brown. It must be that she recovered from what could have been that disastrous puncture towards the end of the bike ride (pedalling on with a flat, not changing the tyre) to eventually winning the silver medal.

Not only that but three months ago she was on crutches after developing a stress fracture in her femur. Just a week before the Olympics she was forced to prove her fitness or face being taken off the team. She had not competed in a triathlon for almost a year before this race.

Oh, and she did win a gold medal in the tri mixed relay.

The gold medal won by Giles Scott was a repeat of his triumph in Rio. The Finn is the longest-serving Olympic class having debuted in 1952, with British sailors having won the last six titles going back to Sydney 2000 - Scott (two), Sir Ben Ainslie (three) and Iain Percy (one). But the class will be dropped from the sailing line-up from Paris 2024. I wonder why.
