There is much to enjoy in Simon Mawer's
The Girl who Fell from the Sky. The exciting first five pages tells us we are in for treat. The whole story is well constructed, there are a succession of great set pieces, from Marion's training to her exploits in Paris. Wartime Britain and France are well described. But the author does not linger, he wants to get on with the plot that rattles along. So not the most literary of novels, but one that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.
