Garden at the end of August

There's not a lot of colour in the garden at the end of August. We are still waiting for some rain after the driest summer I can remember. At least some of the dahlias are doing well, although many are almost dead.

The roses don't mind this weather, in fact their roots go down below searching for moisture so they have never been watered since the spring.

The dianthus on their second flowering have been a great success.

However the normally healthy acanthus has struggled this year.

The odd geranium is coming back into flower.

The annuals I grew from seed are patchy. These nemesia don't mind the drought.

But the far round border is quite pathetic . Time for a change next year.

The asters are virtually dead so these are all coming out in the winter.

And last of all the poor lawn is just like all those in the village. Some much needed rain is forecast this week.
